Vicky Estrada-Bustillo for House District 31

Community | Collaboration | Listening | Leadership

I am running to represent House District 31 because I believe in the power of community to create change. It’s time for a new vision for Northeast Albuquerque.

The people of House District 31 deserve an elected representative who is willing to meet constituents in their neighborhoods, listen to their concerns, and work collaboratively with other legislators to address those concerns. If you elect me to represent our district, you will see and hear from me regularly, not just once a year through a form letter.

As a USDA Forest Service land manager for 30 years and small business owner for 10 years, I have successfully identified - and resolved - many tough challenges involving multiple landowners and stakeholders. I want to put those collaboration and problem-solving skills to work for our community.

Over the last two decades, little has been done to address the root causes of crime, including drug addiction, inequality in education, and lack of affordable housing. We must address these root causes, while also taking steps to improve community safety now.

Too many New Mexicans lack access to quality healthcare, including behavioral and mental healthcare. I am committed to helping our community and state hire more healthcare providers, improve the quality of care, and ensure that women’s reproductive health is protected.

As a parent of two young adults, I also know how important it is to ensure our kids receive a quality education, and that their education translates into good-paying jobs. We must invest in our students, schools, and teachers to build a future workforce that is ready to tackle our toughest challenges, from making our streets safer and our families healthier, to addressing climate change.

Key to building a brighter future for all New Mexicans is the creation of jobs that take advantage of our state's wind and sun and provide for our long-term energy needs.
